Caring For Cats is a small UK registered charity which rescues, neuters and rehomes feral, stray and unwanted domestic cats. Feral cats are abandoned domestic cats living wild and their descendants. These cats are the hardest to work with and sadly many rescue centres will not help them. We have a non-destruction policy which means that no cat is put to sleep unless it is suffering with no hope of getting better and/or no longer enjoying any quality of life.

Caring For Cats has two rescue and rehoming centres - Carol's "Cat House" in Purfleet, Essex and one in Watford, Hertfordshire, run by Karen. We also have a charity shop in South Ockendon, Essex.

Caring For Cats neuters all cats in their care and where possible, returns feral cats to their colony. We work hard to tame feral kittens and young cats and when we are successful, we find them special domestic homes. If they are unable to be tamed or put back, we find homes for them at stables or small-holdings. Domestic cats and kittens are found caring homes wherever possible, but if any cats cannot be found suitable homes, they are cared for by the charity for the rest of their lives.

If you live in the UK, please support our efforts by becoming a supporter, sponsoring one (or more) of our resident cats, or simply by making a donation or buying your internet goods from your usual internet stores through our web shop.

Our Patrons
Gary Numan
We are proud and grateful that Gary Numan and his wife Gemma have agreed to become Patrons of Caring For Cats. They have helped us raise the profile of the charity through their website and at concerts, and their support gives us encouragement for the future. They are seen here visiting the Cat House with their daughter, Raven.

We have  set up an internet account which gives us commission on all items purchased through our webshop. There are over eighty major retailers involved, including Amazon, Play.com, Index, Sky, RAC, Marks and Spencer, plus many more.
The purchaser's contract is with the retailer and accessing them through our webshop in no way affects the price you pay or your rights as a consumer. The commission is donated directly by the retailers from their own marketing budgets and can range from 5% upwards with extra sums being given on some of their special offers.

Our Charity Shop
 Charity Shop South Ockendon

We sell a wide range of mainly donated goods at very reasonable prices, so if you are in the area, please visit us and get a bargain !

We have recently changed our shop hours and we will now be open from 10:00 to 3:00 on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Hours may vary on Monday but will be generally 9:30 to 2:30pm. We will remain open throughout the lunch period but will now be closed on Wednesday. We desperately need volunteers to help out at any time and especially on Wednesdays. Full supervised training will be given. If you think you could help, even for an hour or two a week, please phone Veronica (01732 365534) or Susan (01732 832433).

We don't always remember to say thank you to everyone who donates goods to the shop but without your help we wouldn't be able to stay in business. So please keep all those unwanted items coming and you can be assured that we are very grateful for all that you give. Our thanks go to Helen Chandler and her friend for the beautiful cards and pictures they embroider for us. Also Vera Wetton for the lovely goods she sends for sale in the shop and at events. These all prove very popular and we really appreciate their kindness to the cats.

We are very sorry that we have had to discontinue our guestbook because we were receiving so much spam and unwelcome entries.
When we can find a new guestbook where we can filter out such entries we will re-introduce the service which has been a useful and enjoyable means of communication.

Thanks to all the cat lovers who contributed.
